Liesetal und Hilmesberg – Liese Valley and Hilmesberg Mountain north of Hallenberg
Arbeitsgemeinschaft Biologischer Umweltschutz im Kreis Soest e.V Verified partner
The bottom of the Liese Valley is used as grassland, so that the forest is restricted to the valley slopes, except for a narrow Alder gallery forest bordering the stream. The species-rich wet grassland in the valley flowers colourfully in May and June. Here you can find among the countless flowers such special species as the buttercup-yellow Globeflower or the Broad-leaved Marsh Orchid, a native species of orchid.
Between May and September, you can catch sight of the Red-backed Shrike on top of thorn bushes and hedges in the Liese Valley. Also listen out for the typical "krrrraeh" call of the Nutcracker which is often heard in the Liese Valley.
You get a great view of the valley itself from the Hilmesberg, on which the mountain heath is particularly attractive when the heather is blooming in late summer.
